Public art can be integrated into an environment taking on a functional form such as seating, tree grates, lighting and architectural elements. Or, it can manifest as a discrete element such as a sculpture, mural, mobile, projection etc.

North Vancouver believes that public amenities such as parks, pathways, benches and street landscaping enhance the quality of the built environment. Adding public art to these amenities not only invests a space with 'place-making' qualities and culture, but also has the capacity to interpret the historical, social, environmental, and cultural nuances that are unique to this area.
